How Romaji Transliteration Works
Rōmaji (ローマ字) is the representation of Japanese speech using the Latin script. This tool automatically maps Hepburn Romanization syllables to standard Kana representations, including:
- Double consonants (Sokuon): "matte" → まって / マッテ (using small っ / ッ)
- Contracted sounds (Yōon): "kya", "shu", "cho" → きゃ, しゅ, ちょ
- Topic Particle & Greetings: Although pronounced "wa", greetings like "konnichiwa" (こんにちは) and standalone topic particles ("watashi wa" → わたし は) are historically spelled with は (ha) in standard Japanese grammar.
- Singular nasal N: "konnichiwa" → こんにちは
